The Humming Birds in my Heart are going WILD!

A few months ago I posted this picture on my Instagram feed

It was glue that Bean found in the sand pit. She suggested it looked like a dragon, bug thought it was a sea horse + when I shared it on instagram, some one suggested a humming bird.

And I remembered a time when Bean was just a baby + we were immigrating back to Australia we took six weeks to travel around the USA.

We had stopped in this little town in New Mexico, it was hot + we were tired after a long day driving + it was the very first time I tried a chimichanga  (omg! I LOVED it – even though Mac thought I was totally crazy!)

Any way we were stuffed + tired and just wanted to crawl into our motel beds, when we walked past this shrub near reception + there were hundreds of these baby humming birds.

Flitting. Zipping. Humming.

Just like my heart when I am nervous or anxious about something.

I watch them for at least ten minutes, before racing to the motel room for my camera.

I spent an hour trying to capture the movement + cuteness on film. But in the end of the what felt like a thousand photos, only two or three were any good and in focus.

So when I remembered this time in New Mexico, filled with wonder of these gorgeous whimsical creatures, inspired by travelling around + exploring new places, and excited and nervous about moving back to Australia after eight years away, I knew I had to paint my own humming bird.

Yeah me too. And you know –  I kinda like the feeling!

    Your hummingbird is sweet. One of the pleasures of living in America now is watching interesting birds from my kitchen window (not that British birds are not interesting, just overly familiar) and among the birds I love watching are the hummingbirds. The first time I saw one here I thought I was imagining it. They really are amazing wee things.

    Hummingbirds are one of my personal favorites. they are sweet little messangers with meaningful things to say. I love it when they are in my life. Yours are beautiful.

    I love humming birds this is soooo adorable! I see a humming bird in the glue too! I fed them for years making my own syrup as did my mom…those days are long passed when I moved! Still find them joyful!

    What a lovely post. I adore humming birds and it’s on my bucket list to visit someplace where they fly around – I see other friends online who have special little sugar water humming bird feeders and I always think how wonderful it must be to have these amazing little creatures in your garden. Your humming bird is adorable and that phrase about feeling like your hear is about to burst and humming birds break free – that’s exactly how I felt on the beach this morning – it’s the first proper spring day – the sun is shining and the sky is blue and I was walking along with my 3 dogs just brimming over with gratitude that we get to live someplace this beautiful – thank you for giving me a phrase to go with the feeling!

    I love watching the humming birds too-and yes, they are SO difficult to capture with a camera. Hubby has spent hours quietly sitting for the ready and has only gotten a few good pics the last few years. Your painting of a hummingbird is gorgeous!! And yes, I have felt like my heart was about to burst with hummingbirds and butterflies braking free-and that is joy in its purest form.

    I apologize, the phoebeallens hummingbird seems to have been replaced with the Eagles. Excellent show for the Decorah Eagles, but I didn’t intend for that to be on in the hummingbird place. Sorry. Janet
