☆ When the Suckies Strike + 5 tips to fight them

Rambling thoughts

So last week I had a case of the suckies. You know? It’s those days or even weeks when everything sucks.

Nothing works, nothing seems to run to plan, everything becomes too hard and all you  want to do is to escape into a great book or a great movie. But even then the world is conspiring to make your week suck because every book is boring, or the movie is crap and you wished you could have your two hours back, because even a sucky two hours was better than that rubbish you just watched and to top it off you devoured a whole family sized packet of chips that was supposed to last the week. Everything your write sucks. Everything you paint sucks.

It totalincase suckies strike action listly Sucks.

Even your what to do when suckies struck contingency plan doesn’t work – it seems to much effort…and yes I do have a contingency plan. You just want an entire do over of your week.

So last week was one of those weeks. And unfortunately you can’t magically wave a magic wand to make it all better. I know that during these weeks if I don’t actively fight the suckies, it could easily be a month later with cobwebs on my paintbrushes, carrying an extra 5 kilos, and piles of crap littering my house. Well more piles than normal lets say.

And I thought maybe I would share five of the ways that I fight my suckies and I thought maybe you could share some of your tips too.

1. Accept that it is a sucky week.

Seriously just say to yourself, my week is kinda sucky, but that’s ok.

2. Do what you love without the guilt.

What is your guilty pleasure, that you don’t let yourself do very often because you have so much OTHER happening? My guiltiest of pleasure is to spend all day pinning on pinterest.

3. spend some time pampering yourself.

What can you do for five minutes that will give you pleasure and make you feel like your normal self?  I massage my feet, put on a face mask or take an extra long hot shower.

4. Sleep a little bit more

Can you catch a twenty minute nap on the couch? Hit the sack a little bit earlier? Set the alarm ten minutes later?

Often part of the reason the suckies strike is because I am running on empty. Too many late nights, early morning, too many appointments or projects. TOO MUCH.

5. sit outside for five minutes.

It is amazing (and well documented) how catching five minutes outside in the sun can elevate your mood so grab your beverage of choice and sit outside for a cuppa.

Last week we had continuous rain. Seven days of grey clouds and rain. It is unusual for us to have that much rain, so no sitting in the autumn sun for me. But I took my coffee and blanket and sat on our covered verandah and watched the rain. I think it rejuvenated me in the same way sitting in the sun for five minutes would have.

So these are my five best tips to fight the suckies, when they seem to hang around longer than a couple of hours.

Now it’s your turn. What do you do when you have a sucky week? What tips and tricks do you have to share with the rest of us? I can’t wait to read your suggestions.

By the way! Please share this post if you think it may benefit a friend! x
